It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 9

The new season of Sunny will be here Sept 4 and I’m counting the motherfucking days. This season finds the gang moving from FX to “FXX” (clever title boys) which makes me a little sad cuz I don’t have that channel but that’s what torrents are for right? It doesn’t matter anyways cuz all the young people are using DVR technology nowadays and tweeting on the Myspace etc. so what channel it’s on is a moot point. Let’s just move past it.

I gotta say, I was worried after season 7. I feared the show had run out of it’s bad energy and was relying mostly on shock value for laughs which is something they never did before. In hindsight there were lots of great moments (Anti-social network, Dennis’ “fetish shit” rape kit, hiding tequila in sunblock bottles at the beach etc.) but overall it wasn’t the same. To make matters worse, most people I know were openly praising ┬áthe new episodes and saying how it was one of the best seasons yet. I was confused. Could I be… wrong? It was like when I went to see “Silver Linings Playbook” and openly mocked both the movie and Bradley Cooper’s facial hair assuming that everyone would be on the same wavelength as I, only to be met with disapproving over the shoulder glances and “That was a great film” reactions afterwards. Then it wins a fucking Oscar or something! Jesus. Was I becoming so bitter and disconnected that I could no longer recognize genius or experience joy? Maybe I was getting cranky in my old age… but than again, maybe not. Maybe people are just kinda stupid. Regardless, it was the only season that I didn’t watch twice through after it was done and I was prepared to mourn.

It wasnt until I saw the promos for season 8 that I began to feel at ease and excited again. With trailers featuring Xzibit playing Dee and Andrew “Dice” Clay as Frank I knew they were back on track and I was right. Last season was fucking hilarious. P Diddy serenading Mac, Dennis and Charlie with a solo bass rendition of New Kid’s On The Block’s “Right Stuff” is all I’m gonna say. I’ve got that feeling again after hearing about whats in store for season 9.

It’s gonna be one for the books. I can’t wait to see the gang singing Boys 2 Men’s “Motown Philly” a capella or when they finally “break” Dee. It’s rumored that Mac is dawning blackface again for Lethal Weapon 6. These are the subtle sorts of anti-social behavior that I’ve always needed and appreciated from these guys. While it may be impossible to ever top “The Nightman Cometh” or “Sweet Dee Is Dating A Retarded Person” the show, like Stella, has found it’s goddamn groove again. They didn’t even feel it necessary for this season’s promos to even make a bit of sense but fuck it, at this point they don’t have to. To quote the great Dennis Reynolds… “It’s the implication.”
