It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
“The Gang Desperately Tries To Win An Award”
The best episode of the past two seasons without question. It’s always good when two or more of the cast members are genuinely laughing multiple times throughout. It’s also always an instant classic when Charlie dusts off the keyboard and writes a “middle of the road” blues song. This time he goes straight for the Randy Newman jugular. A heartfelt ode to his beloved Paddy’s Pub with lyrics like “They say the world’s your oyster man, but oysters aren’t for me. Yr the bell of the ball but you aint my cup o’ tea. They always vote you best in show but this doggy disagrees, cuz I like life at Paddy’s Pub.” There’s no rape references or mentions of spiders but there is a harmonica solo.
The story line follows the gang as they desperately seek industry recognition for years of hard work by copying the atmosphere of the award winning, bright light/bright color bar down the street “Sudz.” There’s many “charged moments” and that’s all I feel at liberty to say. This attempt to play the game brings out all the arrogance and insecurities that make this show the best comedy on TV and fuck that lack of trophies. Who’s idea was that anyways?
Years of continued snubs, and the show is better for it.
Here’s the only clip I could find but you’ll get the idea.
